Who We Are & What We Provide for Our Scholars!
Excel Academy Public Charter School is Washington’s first public charter school for girls.
We opened our doors to 134 scholars on August 13, 2008; now we proudly serve over 700 Preschool through 8th-grade girls.
Located in the heart of Anacostia in Ward 8, Excel’s STEM-focused academics and
extracurricular activities support Common Core instruction in a safe, nurturing environment.
The Board of Trustees, Chief Executive Officer, Executive Leadership, and Staff
are committed to providing an effective single-sex public education alternative for girls.
We truly believe that with a strong academic and creative approach, all scholars can learn and achieve at high levels.
As Washington’s first public charter school for girls, we are committed to providing the best educational experience in Washington, DC. To meet the educational needs of our families, Excel Academy has a very strong set of core values governing all areas of school life.
Excel Academy scholars live and work by a set of core values, represented by IDEALS: Integrity, Discipline, Enjoyment, Achievement, Leadership, and Sisterhood. Excel actively promotes education and personal development to ensure that our girls feel empowered. We sincerely believe that the mind is the foundation in which empowerment begins, and it all starts in early childhood.
Every girl counts at Excel! It takes a village to raise a child and to teach a child all of the skills needed to thrive in society today. Our job is to equip and supply our girls with the ability, independence, and confidence necessary to learn today and lead tomorrow! We believe that when we educate girls, we educate families, change communities, and transform lives!
